The All-New Hyundai NEXO Arrives with a 700 km Hydrogen Range
Posted on April 9, 2025
The automotive world welcomes a new hydrogen-powered player with the launch of the fully redesigned Hyundai NEXO, unveiled at the Seoul Mobility Show. This second-generation hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) showcases Hyundai’s ongoing commitment to sustainable mobility, offering significant improvements across the board. With a refueling time of just five minutes, the new NEXO aims for an impressive range of over 700 kilometers, making it a realistic zero-emission option for environmentally conscious Canadian drivers — with no compromises.
Backed by 27 years of expertise in fuel cell technology, the all-new NEXO represents a complete evolution of Hyundai’s hydrogen vision. This midsize SUV delivers enhanced performance, advanced safety technologies, and a host of innovations designed to make hydrogen mobility more accessible and appealing to a wider audience.
Bold “Art of Steel” Design That Commands Attention
The redesigned Hyundai NEXO introduces Hyundai’s new “Art of Steel” design language, giving it a striking presence on the road. Its sharp lines and sturdy structure convey both elegance and strength. Horizontal grooves on the doors emphasize the vehicle’s durability, while its arched silhouette reinforces a sense of ruggedness.
Distinctive “HTWO” headlights create a unique visual identity for FCEVs, embodying Hyundai’s hydrogen brand and its mission of “Hydrogen for Humanity.” The four-dot lighting signature ensures that the NEXO is instantly recognizable as a Hyundai — even at night. Six colours will be available, including the dazzling Goyo Copper Pearl, a tri-coat finish that creates a multidimensional effect depending on light and viewing angle.
The new NEXO is larger than its predecessor in every dimension — longer, wider, and taller — giving it a more commanding road presence while also increasing passenger and cargo space.
Interior Comfort Taken to New Heights
Step inside the 2026 Hyundai NEXO and discover a spacious cabin designed for ultimate occupant comfort. Soft, refined materials and home-inspired patterns create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. A driver-oriented curved display and intuitive controls enhance the tech-forward feel, while the island-style center console offers generous storage space.
“Premium Relaxation” front seats feature leg rests for optimal comfort, and slimmer seatbacks free up additional rear knee room. Rear passengers enjoy ventilated seats and increased recline compared to the previous model. Rear doors now open wider, making access even easier.
Smart storage solutions are found throughout the cabin — in the center console, dashboard, and door panels. A panoramic sunroof enhances the open feel, while speed-sensitive ambient lighting adds a premium touch to the driving experience.
Hydrogen-Powered Performance
The 2026 NEXO is equipped with a completely re-engineered powertrain that significantly boosts performance. Total system output rises from 135 kW to 190 kW, while battery capacity doubles from 40 kW to 80 kW. The result: a 0–100 km/h acceleration time of just 7.8 seconds — 1.4 seconds quicker than the previous generation.
The fuel cell stack now produces a maximum output of 110 kW — a 16% increase — and the new electric motor delivers 150 kW. Cold-weather performance is also improved, thanks to the stack’s “Wake Up” anti-freeze function and other optimizations that ensure reliable driving year-round.
On the tech side, the NEXO features the ccNC (Connected Car Navigation Cockpit) system with a curved display combining a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch multimedia screen. Advanced features include voice recognition powered by generative AI, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a premium Bang & Olufsen sound system with up to 14 speakers. The NEXO also offers V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) functionality, allowing you to power external devices from the car’s battery.
The Future of Hydrogen Mobility Is Here
The 2026 Hyundai NEXO represents a major leap forward in hydrogen vehicle technology. With its extended range, enhanced performance, and zero tailpipe emissions, it stands as a compelling alternative in the electric vehicle landscape. Its towing capability — a first for an FCEV — and five-minute refueling time show that hydrogen technology is steadily evolving toward greater versatility and convenience.
